Formal Education and Training

I am a licensed Professional Counselor certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of Oregon in 1973. Major course work included: Counseling Principles, Human Development, Marriage and Family Counseling, Psychotherapeutic Models and Family Dynamics -and to maintain my license, I participate in professionally-related continuing education classes.

Philosophical Approach

I believe that as human beings we are constantly challenged to stand up and learn how to be true to ourselves. Counseling and guidance is appropriate during times when a person's inner strength has become overwhelmed, confused or blocked by the myriad influences in their life. Resolving life issues is a very complex matter that involves learning new skills, such as: Letting go of repressed emotions, healing painful memories of traumatic events, correcting obsolete belief systems and communicating feelings and needs more directly.

My aim as a therapist is to provide my clients with a safe, nonjudgmental environment where they can honestly face their problems and explore their inner resources. With increased awareness and skill in moving with thought and emotions, one experiences relief from psychological and spiritual distress.

Prior to my coaching work with Rosewood, I was a Registered Nurse and certified by both the National Consortium of Behavioral Health Nurses and the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psych-Mental Health Nurse and Addictions specialist.

My focus now in coaching and mentoring my clients has been maternal depression, grief and loss healing, nutrition and wellness, trauma resolution, codependency and addictions recovery.

I also collaborate with my husband Joel to work with couples. Each person in a relationship needs an advocate for healing.

With deep respect for the healing soul, I believe that the hardest work in life is to seek help, and in seeking, one might find "a cushion for your head", and a power greater than yourself that might lead you to sanity.

I do not take insurance but work with a sliding scale.

My priority as a therapist is to ensure that every person I sit with feels seen, heard, and validated. You are the expert on you. I value your expertise but if you feel lost I will stand beside you as you rediscover yourself.

As a therapist, I don’t believe that “one therapy fits all” - You are unique and your therapy should be no different. I offer multiple approaches so that each person feels comfortable. Whether it be through talk, nature, or art our work together will be centered around what you need.

I earned a Master of Arts in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy and a Certificate in Ecopsychology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

I’m currently located in Portland, Oregon and offer my therapeutic services via telehealth to anyone in Oregon. I do not take insurance but I do offer a sliding scale and can provide you with a monthly superbill for insurance reimbursement. I also accept all HSA.

I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation to all people looking to connect with me and learn more about the therapeutic process.
